These are Text Messages That Are Sent But Probably Shouldn’t Be like Things You Shouldn’t Text as its Bad Text Etiquette
Top 10 Text Messages That Shouldn’t Have Been Sent
Nowadays, Texting has become an integral part of the communication in the society. With the handy smartphones these days texting and chatting has taken a new turn for the chatterboxes. We prefer to write short messages more or less to all our friends and familiar ones. Therefore it is wise to be careful about the messages as we often don’t think twice about the types of messages we send. A text message cannot carry the emotions with which you want to convey your feeling. Sometimes a text message doesn’t deliver seriousness in an effective way. The other person can’t see/hear your non-verbal signs or tones and are perceived differently.
- Bad News about Your Health- It doesn’t give the person a chance to process the information fully. Also, you don’t know what the other person is doing at that moment—they may not be in a position or situation to take bad news.
- Big Secrets- If you want to have a healthy relationship with that person never text “Don’t tell anyone but…” for example, to them. Meet or call up.
- Break Up- A big no-no to end any relationship over text, like “I deserve much better than you”. Have the conversation face-to-face, as long as the relationship isn’t toxic and safe to do so.
- Arising Old Argument- Texts for example “You did this last time”, “You always happen to mess up” are undesirable. Things get misunderstood over text easily so better not text these.
- Send Passwords- Not a good idea. You never really know who is flipping through someone’s text messages. And let’s not forget that people lose their phones and it’s vulnerable.
- Private Pictures- Think of the consequences of the recipient seeing the information prior to sending a private message or picture over text or email.
- Continue a fight– “I am ignoring you” is a passive response and it seems really critical in the heat of the moment, later you may regret it. Make plans to meet and talk it out in person
- Sensitive Information- Be sure to send messages that would put you in trouble, or come back to bite you in the butt. Suppose “Your co-worker isn’t meeting her deadlines”, “Your boss is a bitch” can cost you badly. It’s too easy to take a screenshot or send a message along to anyone. Whatever you send, you should be able to stand by it.
- Cancel a date/meeting- This kind of messages “I have to cancel, sorry”, tears the expectation and give a wrong impression. Instead, you can add “Something came up. How’s Tuesday or Saturday?”
- Long, one-sided message- Your messages are not going through maybe because they may be busy, or in an area where there is no Wi-Fi. Repeated texting will irritate them and you appear desperate. Send an email if you don’t hear from someone.
