All the world population figures differ from country to country – which means every country’s needs differ too. Men and especially women and children deserve their rights to be recognised. World Population Day is observed annually on July 11. Its aim is to raise awareness of global population problems. The event started in 1989 in response to the world’s population reaching five billion two years earlier. The United Nations Development Programme created the day and has since set up campaigns to warn us of the dangers of overpopulation. These problems include water shortages, food shortages, increased pollution, poverty and wars over scare resources. On World Population Day, the UN and governments around the world run educational campaigns in schools and local communities. It makes people aware of what we need to do so the world can survive with billions more people World Population Day is an annual event, observed on July 11 every year, which seeks to raise awareness of global population issues. The event was established by the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme in 1989. It was inspired by the public interest in Five Billion Day on July 11, 1987-approximately the date on which the world’s population reached five billion people.

On this World Population Day, I call on all with influence to prioritize youth in development plans, strengthen partnerships with youth-led organizations, and involve young people in all decisions that affect them. Message for World Population Day

World Population Day – Do you know what one of the biggest achievements of all the time has been? Decreasing mortality rates all over the world.

The primary concern with observing a day entirely as World Population Day was to center attention on the immediacy and consequence of population issues in the context of overall development plans and programs and the need to find solutions for these issues of the effects of growing population. The greatest identifiable threat caused due to over population is the alarmingly fast depletion of natural resources and threat to sustainability. But albeit being a threat to life itself, the World Population is also an opportunity to celebrate the spirit of brotherhood and to realize the responsibility we have towards another in this great big world we call our family.
n 1989, in its decision 89/46, the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme recommended that, in order to focus attention on the urgency and importance of population issues in the context of overall development plans and programmes and the need to find solutions for these issues, 11 July should be observed by the international community as World Population Day.
Today’s 1.8 billion young people are shaping social and economic realities, challenging norms and values, and building the foundation of the world’s future. Yet too many young people continue to grapple with poverty, inequality and human rights violations that prevent them from reaching their personal and collective potential.

On 2015 World Population Day, we call for investments in support of the largest-ever generation of youth.

Just a couple of centuries ago people would have thought themselves lucky to live into their late forties! Now we’re expected to live as old as 100 years old! So what is the world population? Just over a whopping 7 billion people. Which means that every single person has to count to their government.

But while these issues are addressed in some places, poverty and inequality is still rife in other countries like Africa. And the place to start?

Having data that is reliable makes a huge difference – it’s how countries plan housing, transporation and make many more important decisions with their citizens in mind.

Highlighting trends helps officials to see how their country is developing and allows them to gage the best course of action to take next. Safeguarding the rights of adolescents and youth and investing in their future is essential to their development and that of their families, communities and countries. Providing quality education, decent employment, effective livelihood skills and access to sexual and reproductive health, including comprehensive sexuality education, will ensure that every young person’s potential is fulfilled.

Why and how World Population Day is celebrated?

It is celebrated to protect and empower youths of both gender like girls and boys.
To offer them detail knowledge about the sexuality and delay marriages till they become able to understand their responsibilities.
Educate youths to avoid unwanted pregnancies by using reasonable and youth friendly measures.
Educate people to remove the gender stereotypes from society.
Educate them about the pregnancy related illnesses to raise the public awareness about dangers of early childbirth.
Educate them about STD (sexually transmitted diseases) to get prevented from various infections.
Demand for some effective laws and policies implementation in order to protect girl child rights.
Make sure about the access of equal primary education to both girls and boys.
Make sure the easy access of reproductive health services everywhere as part the basic primary health for each couple.

Conclusion

It affects us all so we should all be involved! The current world population is huge and keeps continuing to grow. So let’s join the United Nations in their fight for a better world for its inhabitants!
